MENA Newswire News Desk: The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the BRICS Ministers of Energy meeting held in Moscow, Russia, reaffirming the country’s commitment to international energy collaboration and sustainable development. Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of Energy and Petroleum Affairs, led the UAE delegation at the event.

During the meeting, Al Olama emphasized that the UAE’s participation underscores its dedication to multilateral cooperation, particularly in addressing global energy security challenges. He highlighted that international collaboration is essential for overcoming obstacles and advancing sustainable solutions to secure a better future for all.

“As a BRICS member, the UAE aims to be a driving force in collective climate action,” Al Olama said. “We believe that international cooperation is the most effective way to tackle shared energy challenges and to implement innovative solutions that address these concerns.” Al Olama also reflected on the UAE’s role at COP28, referencing the UAE Consensus, an ambitious global response to the first ‘global stocktake’ of climate change efforts.

He pointed out that the UAE provided a roadmap for climate action leading to 2030, which lays out concrete actions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in a nationally determined way. The UAE remains at the forefront of the renewable energy transition, Al Olama noted, focusing on accelerating the deployment of clean energy sources without compromising grid stability. Collaboration between regulatory bodies and the energy industry has been crucial in achieving and surpassing renewable energy targets, further cementing the UAE’s leadership in the global energy sector.

“As we move forward, the UAE remains committed to driving an energy transition at the scale and pace required to meet its climate objectives,” Al Olama added. “Our goal is to achieve net zero by 2050 while continuing to foster global cooperation in energy innovation.” The meeting also highlighted the UAE’s pivotal role in the BRICS energy discussions, with its focus on climate action and renewable energy advancement resonating with the group’s goals for a sustainable energy future.
