With Joshua Kimmich sent off, Bayern Munich beat Wolfsburg 4-2 to return to the top of the Bundesliga. Kimmich was sent off with his second yellow card in the 54th minute, but Wolfsburg could not turn its dominance into a victory, AP reports.

Bayern reclaim Bundesliga lead with 4-2 win over WolfsburgIn Bayern’s first Bundesliga win of the season, Kingsley Coman powered Bayern’s attack twice, while Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala added two more goals. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann says the result is more significant than anything else. “We were too careless after the third goal, not concentrated enough and allowed a bit too much, but we can take these three points forward.”

Bayern were able to move back one point clear of Union Berlin with this result. Ten-time defending champions Bayern Munich had nine shots on goal to Wolfsburg’s 22. Bayern scored in the ninth minute when Coman’s cross for Muller evaded everyone and crept inside the far post.

Coman wasn’t finished. The France winger met João Cancelo’s cross with a volley for 2-0 five minutes later, right after Wolfsburg missed a great opportunity to level. As Muller equaled Gerd Muller’s Bayern record of 427 appearances, he scored Bayern’s third goal in just the 19th minute with Kimmich’s free kick.

In spite of the goals, Wolfsburg remained competitive and deservedly pulled one back through Jakub Kaminski. As the home team pushed for more in the second half, Kimmich missed two clear chances before he was dismissed for a foul on Maximilian Arnold.

Musiala snatched Bayern’s fourth with an individual effort in the 73rd minute after Wolfsburg enjoyed more possession. In the 81st minute, Mattias Svanberg pulled Wolfsburg back; three minutes later, Yannick Gerhardt thought he’d made it 4-3, but VAR ruled it out because of an apparent foul.
